Diabetic foot care is now a staple of a podiatric medicine practice. Prevention is the key to successful treatment of patients with Diabetes Mellitus, type I and type II. When a patient with diabetes and peripheral neuropathy (numbness in feet) has preventative foot care performed by a podiatrist, they significantly decrease their risk of diabetic foot complications. The increasing incidence of diabetic foot ulcers, infections and amputations makes regular visits to the podiatrist an important priority of all who suffer from diabetes. A prominent feature of Dr. Goebel’s clinic is the full line of Dr. Comfort diabetic shoes. These shoes meet the rigorous requirements of Medicare for the diabetic therapeutic shoe program for those diabetic patients who meet the criteria for coverage. In the case where insurance coverage is not available, the shoes retail competitively with other high quality walking shoes like S.A.S. These shoes may be fitted with custom shoe inserts taken from patient foot molds when needed. If diabetic ulcerations or infections arise, the clinic is prepared with all manner of healing modalities. These treatments include, but are not limited to: special shoe gear for offloading, ulcer maintenance/cleaning/bandaging, infection prevention, advanced in clinic skin grafting and antibiotics when necessary.
